Theatre, Community and Innovation. Twenty years of SCT Centre [ITA]
A. Pontremoli, Teoria e tecniche del teatro educativo e sociale, Torino, UTET, 2004

The Social Community Theatre Centre, established in 2003 through a collaboration between the University of Turin, Corep, and the European People’s Theatre, has always been at the forefront of developing performing arts projects with a transformative impact on people and the places they inhabit. Through the Social Community Theatre methodology, of which it is the creator, the Centre develops intersectoral projects of cultural and social innovation, training, and evaluation. This practice, in constant dialogue with the dimension of interdisciplinary scientific research, has its roots in the Italian cultural and artistic heritage, from theatrical anthropology to theatrical animation, from theatrical narration to theatre education, from the festive tradition to audience engagement practices for civic participation.
For its 20 years of activity, SCT Centre has invited scholars and researchers to identify and analyze the strengths of this multifaceted activity, discussing it within the broader horizon of a local, national and European cultural history that in the two decades of the 2000s has strongly changed the cultural practices of working with people and communities. The activity of SCT Centre thus offers operators and researchers in the field of performing arts, culture, social work and education, and in general those with an interest and curiosity in the practices of inclusion, participation and cultural welfare, an effective and concise tool to orient themselves in a rapidly developing sector
