Among the 17 goals for sustainable development, defined by the United Nations, environmental protection has a central role. Specifically, objective 6 of the 2030 Agenda aims to guarantee everyone access to a source of drinking water; objective 13 is dedicated to interventions to combat climate change, whereas objectives 14 and 15 are dedicated to the safeguard of marine and terrestrial environments. Culture and artistic practices can play a crucial role in the correct and effective dissemination of these themes.
Social and Community Theatre reaches a universal audience through innovative, accessible languages, capable of involving and motivating to take action.
This is why in the last ten years SCT Centre has paid particular attention to the environmental issue, from local projects such as I giardini di Aurora and L’acqua è vita, set in Turin, to regional projects such as Transumanza di Comunità to even international projects such as Terract, gli attori della terra, carried out on the border between Italy and France, and Etiopia 100% plastica, developed in the city of Awassa (Ethiopia). The last project on such themes is the European Creative Europe project Green Ethics – Green Experience Through Theatre Inspiring Communities (2022-2026).
We conduct planning, research and evaluation, developing performing arts events and workshops that promote cultural and social participation through the Social Community Theatre methodology.
