The Centre
“Theatre has no categories, it is about life. This is the only starting point, and there is nothing else truly fundamental.”
Peter Brook
We are a cultural centre dedicated to developing performing arts projects with a transformative impact on people and the places they inhabit.

We are a cultural centre dedicated to developing performing arts projects with a transformative impact on people and the places they inhabit.
Born in 2003 as a working group, SCT Centre was formalized in 2013 through a partnership between Corep, TPE Teatro Popolare Europeo (our artistic partner) and the Department of Humanities at the University of Turin. From the creation of theatrical performances to the design and implementation of training workshops and community events, through the methodology of Social Community Theatre, which we created with the University of Turin, we design and manage innovative multi-professional and intersectoral projects that combine artistic creativity, scientific research and social commitment.
We collaborate with a diverse network of national and international public and private partners, including professionals in education, social work, and healthcare, all committed to a cultural welfare perspective.

“Some stories are born from a deep-seated need for meaning and beauty. The story of SCT Centre is one such story.
In the early 2000s, we felt a compelling need to create theatre that was essential to life, theatre that stemmed from the lives of individuals and communities. We chose to bring theatre to the places where life unfolds – the suburbs, hospitals, schools, refugee camps, and retirement homes – and to the people who inhabit those spaces. Our aim was not to entertain, to act, or to educate, but rather to create a shared experience of artistic creation, connection, and well-being.

Our
work
Planning and Innovation
We are specialists in the conception, planning and methodological and artistic coordination, collaborating with our team and the network of partners. SCT Centre directly implements interventions at local and international level, promoting innovation and social growth.
Research and Evaluation
We conduct in-depth studies, methodological and intervention studies in collaboration with professors, professionals and researchers. We monitor, supervise and evaluate multidisciplinary projects to ensure effective and lasting results.

Scientific Consultancy in TSC and Project Supervision
We provide expert scientific consultancy in Social and Community Theatre (SCT) and offer comprehensive project supervision to government agencies, foundations, private companies, non-profit organizations, and independent professionals, supporting them in delivering targeted and successful interventions.
Training and Capacity Building
We promote professional development through continuing education courses, masters, our national TSC school and the International SCT Summer Schools. We integrate university education to provide solid and up-to-date skills in the field of performing arts and social inclusion.
The methodology
At the heart of our approach lies the methodology of Social and Community Theatre (SCT), established in the early 2000s at the University of Turin by Alessandro Pontremoli and Alessandra Rossi Ghiglione. This methodology recognizes the power of SCT to foster individual and relational growth in every facet of life.
Through a transformative and participatory approach, we aim to stimulate new relationships and collaborations within communities, promoting social engagement and cultural regeneration. By employing diverse artistic practices and symbolic languages, SCT Centre creates spaces for expression and sharing, empowering communities to voice their experiences and transform their realities.
The pursuit of artistic quality and a focus on dramaturgy are cornerstones of this methodology, resulting in interventions that generate social impact and drive positive change within communities.

The Network
We are part of a national and international network of universities, foundations, public bodies, profit and non-profit organizations, committed to social inclusion, development capacity and art as an instrument of change.
