Theatre and Health. The Scene of Care in Piedmont [ITA]
A. Rossi Ghiglione, Torino, Ananke, 2010
What is the relationship between performing arts and the art of care? Is there a link between healing processes and creative processes? Can the practice of theater offer professional resources to healthcare professionals and patients? In recent years in Italy, and in Piedmont in particular, theater and the arts have been supporting care and health promotion processes in hospitals, creating shows, workshops, and implementing artistic interventions in communities and the surrounding area. Based on the author’s research and intervention experience and the contribution of numerous leading figures from the world of health and culture, the volume explores the reasons and methods that lead theater, and in particular social and community theater, to meet medicine, offering a close look at some best practices. A DVD, attached to the volume, presents, through numerous videos and interviews, cutting-edge projects in the fields of performing arts and medical humanities.
