Become part of the workshop “The voice of the Audience”!
Would you like to be part of a choir – creating music not through singing but with all kinds of sounds that the theatre audience usually makes? Sounds like coughs, sighs, whispers, snoring, laughter, clapping: all this can become a piece of music.
This “sound work” was presented for the first time in Denmark in 2017 at the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen, with 40 people of all ages and all social classes. The group rehearsed once a week for several months. Here is a video with English subtitles of the project. Here’s a video of the project.
A short version of this work will be created in Turin as part of the conference Art and community: European models of audience engagement and social inclusion. During the workshop participants will learn a part of the original piece, based on the sounds produced by the audience in a Russian theatre in 1923.
The “music” is written and will be directed by the internationally renowned composer Peter Bruun under the direction of Lotte Faarup, artistic director of Forsøgsstationen.
The workshop is open to artists, social workers and citizens of all ages and social classes and is free. Registrations open on September 3, 2018. The only requirement is to take part in the entire workshop and the final performance – no singing or theatrical skills are necessary! There will be a translator from English to Italian, and Lotte Faarup also speaks Italian.

Workshop: Monday 8 October – Thursday 11 October at 9.30 am -1.30 pm at the StudiumLab of the University of Turin, in Via S. Ottavio 20, Turin, ground floor.
Performance (open to the public and free): Thursday 11 October at 8:00 pm at the Teatro Vittoria, via Antonio Gramsci 4, Turin. The performance is included in the Art and Community conference.

THE “THE VOICE OF THE AUDIENCE” PROJECT
is a research project developed by The Lab Station (Forsøgsstationen Theatre Company, Denmark), and was part of the Micro Events of Caravan Next, a large-scale project (Creative Europe) conceived by the Social Community Theatre Centre | UNITO and Odin Teatret – Nordisk Teaterlaboratorium. The overall objective of the project is to create a common ground for very diverse groups of residents of local communities through artistic activities that stimulate the development of a sense of belonging and a shared identity.
The Lab Station is a laboratory for performing arts professionals, who reside in an old 1920s cinema.
