We return home with eyes full of enthusiasm, sharing and beauty.
The third mission of SCT Centre for the #lemieradici project has almost concluded.
After three weeks of training, creation and rehearsals, Men Alegn Hageré (What I lost from my Country) was born. The show narrates the frustration that drives Ethiopian migrants to leave, the inhumane journey that men and women face to reach Saudi Arabia illegally, the very hard life at the service of Arab masters, the return home, for those who make it, passing through Saudi prison.
It also tells, however, of loved faces and scents and traditions, which await those who have left at home: a painful and comforting thought, which gives strength and keeps alive the hope of the migrant.
Here, there is also space to talk about coffee, whose preparation is a ritual accompanied by a blessing given by a woman defined as “The Queen of Coffee”. The coffee ceremony is the symbol of Ethiopian tradition and is an occasion for conviviality and demonstration of hospitality for foreigners or long-time friends.
In turn, the three groups of young people involved in the training were the protagonists of the show during the community event that took place in their woreda (village). All the actors and, from time to time, ten members of the community involved in the preparation of the event, were at the center of the opening parade and some theatrical actions related to the theme of the show.
We return home with eyes full of enthusiasm, sharing and beauty.
