From March 13th to 15th, Spazio BAC hosts the first edition of the Theatre and Mathematics Festival titled La Matematica è per Tutt! (Mathematics is for Everyone!). Aimed at Primary and Secondary Schools in Turin, the event will involve 10 schools and more than 400 students with theatrical performances, workshops, and laboratories dedicated to learning mathematics through the use of theater.
The festival, funded by CRT, arises in response to the urgency to combat school dropout, especially in complex socio-economic contexts. With a focus specifically on the peripheral neighborhoods of Turin, La matematica è per tutt! promotes the use of Social and Community Theater as an educational and innovative tool capable of breaking down learning barriers.
March 13th and 14th will be dedicated to Math Scare Boom – Una strana lezione contro il mal di matematica (Math Scare Boom – A strange lesson against math sickness), the result of the European Erasmus+ TIM – Theatre in Mathematics project, a show that ironically addresses the role of fear in learning mathematics.
March 15th will then present Contaci! La matematica e le donne (Count on us! Mathematics and Women), a show addressing the gender gap in scientific fields, which won the 2021 MIUR call with the MatemACT project.
In the afternoons, the Mathemart – Insegnare La Matematica nel Laboratorio Teatrale (Mathemart – Teaching Mathematics in the Theatre Laboratory) workshops are scheduled, an opportunity to approach mathematics in a playful and fun way through the methodology of Social and Community Theatre.
