Thematic scope

COMMUNITY, CULTURE, WELLBEING
A cultural welfare project promoting youth protagonism through active cultural participation.

The project

CU.BE – CUltura e BEnessere – CUltura è BEnessere (CU.BE – CUlture and wellBEing – CUlture is wellBEing) is a cultural welfare project aimed at empowering young people (aged 12-18) through active cultural participation.

The project unites a broad network of social and cultural organizations in the Monregalese area, led by the Municipality of Mondovì, to encourage active youth participation in local events and activities, fostering awareness of cultural and sports opportunities and creating new social connections.

The project is aimed at young people aged 12-18 in the area, and professionals who work with them daily (teachers, educators, sports and cultural association workers), with the goal of enhancing the community’s capacity in cultural welfare, the biopsychosocial model, advocacy, and coaching.

Action

1) TRAINING of the educational community: delivery of a training course curated by Teatro Popolare Europeo and Cooperativa Animazione Valdocco on the theme of cultural welfare and advocacy. In particular, the training sessions provided by Teatro Popolare Europeo focused on the key concepts and scientific evidence of the role of culture in promoting the well-being and health of communities and individuals, especially young people, alternating between theoretical and experiential moments. The sessions were open to educators, teachers, cultural and social workers in the Monregalese area, with the aim of facilitating the creation of a network of local operators with shared skills and a common language, working together for cultural welfare even after the project ends. (Period: October 2023 – February 2024)

2) Youth ACTIVATION in the area: creation of a group of young people aged 12-18 (“staff”) with the aim of co-designing social and cultural activities for their peers and actively participating in local events. The activation phase was structured around the following actions:

  • implementation of the “Wellbeing Manifesto” by Teatro Popolare Europeo: through a series of workshops, the youth staff explored and shared, using the languages of Social and Community Theatre, the elements of wellbeing in their daily lives. The results of the process were collected in a digital “Wellbeing Manifesto,” shared with young people in Mondovì, to investigate what situations and actions “make them feel good” (March-June 2024);
  • staff participation in a videomaking course: the youth staff participated in a series of workshops to learn the basics of video production, and then documented the events taking place in Mondovì during the spring and summer months, sharing them with their peers through a video diary (March-September 2024);
  • organization of artistic (theatre, circus) and sports (aikido) workshops for young people aged 12-16, involving local associations (October-November 2024);
  • co-design of the final project presentation event on the theme of youth well-being and aspirations, involving creative professionals in workshops. The young staff will be recognized for their commitment to the project and awarded as “active citizens”.
