Connessioni (Connections) is an online creative initiative designed for individuals over 60 to explore potential methods for sparking imagination, expressing feelings, envisioning the future, and enhancing digital literacy. One hour per week, in the afternoon, a way to connect with new people and enjoy creative and engaging activities together. Pilot project made possible through the support of the crowdfunding campaign on Rete del Dono.
During Christmas 2020, and in response to the growing social isolation of certain population groups – particularly older adults – due to the Covid emergency, the Social Community Theatre Centre decided to leverage the digital skills of some collaborators to provide basic training on how to use smartphones for video calls, enabling them to stay connected with their social and local networks. This project, born from the civic engagement of the Social Community Theatre Centre, was supported in December 2020 by a fundraising campaign on “Rete del Dono,” which helped gather some of the resources needed to carry out the initiative.
Following a second analysis of the needs of the beneficiaries, the project was oriented towards a short online course for creative and artistic activation for participants over 60 through creative stimulation exercises (short read-alouds, artistic processing of photographs, audio, video, theatrical exercises, etc.) so as to strengthen the emotional well-being of the elderly by enhancing the positive resources activated to combat loneliness due to pandemic isolation.
The participants were contacted individually by telephone to verify their specific needs and basic digital skills, and subsequently, 5 online group meetings were proposed for creative stimulation and activation of each person’s artistic resources. The project included the creation of a final output based on the contributions made by those who participated, elaborated in the form of an audio track, collage of images or short video.
Connessioni, through the involvement of a small group of over 60s accompanied by two facilitators of Social and Community Theatre and artistic practices, aimed to achieve the following objectives:
