L’Officina della Cultura – Itinerari tra arti e mestieri (The Culture Workshop – Routes through arts and crafts) is a multidisciplinary project that, through workshops and events in theater, music, dance, cinema, and photography, aimed to promote aggregation, inclusion, and active participation of people residing in District 2 of Turin.
The project was co-financed by the European Union – European Social Fund, within the framework of the Metropolitan City Operational Program 2014-2020, in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Throughout the project, the partners structured a proposal of cultural activities articulated in workshops and events open to the public, aimed at promoting the participation of a wide audience (children, young people, adults, elderly, and vulnerable people, with a total participation of approximately 1,340 people), with a view to exchange between cultures and generations.
The training courses and events were disseminated throughout the territory to facilitate the involvement of elderly people and people with cognitive disabilities or experiences of mental distress. Culture and art thus became a tool for aggregation, inclusion, and active participation, fostering intergenerational exchange and supporting the overcoming of the social crisis caused by the Covid-19 emergency.
The dense calendar of activities, which ran from September 2022 to July 2023, followed a dual track:
SCT Centre developed the project impact assessment design through a series of qualitative and quantitative tools that also included the realization of focus groups conducted with expressive languages, aimed at gathering the voices of citizens and their reflections on the experiences made during the project and on the project themes.
