OCA: l’arte che allena il pensiero (GOOSE: Art training thoughts) is a Social and Community Theater project realized with the support of the Compagnia di San Paolo Foundation within the “CivICa Call”, projects of Culture and Civic Innovation. The project aims to involve the spaces and community of the Polo del ‘900, in particular groups of high school students, the Young Board of the 900 Young People of the Polo and the group of young researchers of the AIR Association, as well as students of the Albertina Academy of Fine Arts of Turin and migrant women from organizations belonging to the Barolo Social District, in the creation of the contents of an animated game of the goose through the languages of theater, art and new technologies.
OCA is a game built with the community for the community. The OCA format is a highly innovative format both for the construction process chosen and for the methods of creating the final product. The OCA project combines the involvement of the community as the protagonist of the creation process of the final product with a work of scientific and specialist research of quality aimed at creating a multidisciplinary product that uses multiple languages: theatrical, visual, playful, digital.
The game’s main target audience is the city community and it was conceived as an effective capacity building tool for citizens oriented towards the development of critical thinking around the following civic needs:
The OCA game was created using the Social and Community Theater methodology, conceived by a committee of experts composed of project partners and built from 5 workshops involving young local residents under the guidance of SCT.
The game installation consists of 50 squares painted by students of the Albertina Academy of Fine Arts of Turin and was created in the spaces of the Polo del ‘900 so as to constitute a permanent installation playable by visitors.
The project implementation process was divided into:
The game was showcased both live, incorporating live performance elements, and digitally, featuring technological enhancements on the panels – QR codes for accessing videos and additional information.
The project also produced a simplified version with transportable and modular panels to facilitate the replication of the game in other spaces in the future, indoors or outdoors, in a courtyard, in a school, in a museum, in a town hall, in a square, in different neighborhoods and in the context of educational and civic engagement projects in which the project partner S-Nodi is involved. In addition, the board game kit for medium-term sustainability was created to be distributed in educational, social and cultural contexts.
On Friday, June 12th and Saturday, June 13th, OCA: L’arte che allena il pensiero made its debut – An interactive theatrical performance in the form of the famous game of the Goose, but in a “square” format, in the inner courtyard of the Polo del ‘900 in Turin.
The OCA: L’arte che allena il pensiero project was carried out thanks to the collaboration with the following partners:
