An animated game of the goose through the languages of theater, art and new technologies, which promotes critical thinking to counter discrimination and inequality.

OnStage+ is an educational project that uses the Social and Community Theatre methodology aimed at students, teachers, and families on the topic of addressing LGBTQIA+ inequalities and promoting the plurality of existing masculine models.
The Onstage+ project was born from the request of the Fondazione per la Scuola (Foundation for the School) to address, through the languages of the performing arts, the theme of gender inequalities and discrimination, and in particular, the promotion of plural and virtuous models of masculinity within school contexts. This is to ensure that schools increasingly become an inclusive environment where everyone’s diversity is welcomed and where students are free to build their own identity.
The idea for the project stems from an intervention format previously tested by the SCT Centre within a project developed with the University of Turin on the theme of countering LGBTQIA+ discrimination, titled OnStage: NOn STare A GuardarE! (Don’t just stand there and watch!). This project, with a specific focus on discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity, had, starting from 2022, produced scientific research and an artistic intervention model to engage a non-academic audience, foster critical thinking, and co-construct the awareness necessary to counter discrimination and inequality and promote an inclusive social context where civil rights are protected and everyone is free to express their identity without suffering discrimination.
The OnStage project therefore provided a foundation of content and artistic formats upon which, at the invitation of the Fondazione per la Scuola, the SCT Centre worked within the Onstage+ project, expanding and adapting the content to address the specific challenge of promoting plural models of masculinity and countering a culture, unfortunately still widespread, that offers boys and girls an idea of gender roles that contrasts with the principles of inclusivity and free self-expression.
Starting from the OnStage project, the SCT Centre team, in dialogue with the Fondazione per la Scuola, undertook in-depth research on the thematic area of masculinity and gender discrimination and devised multiple intervention actions specifically designed for the context of formal education in secondary schools. The project idea, in fact, took into account the different stakeholders present in schools—particularly teachers, education professionals, students, and families—and developed intervention formats using various methods to promote an inclusive school environment and co-construct shared awareness regarding gender discrimination issues that many young people experience even within the school context.
The OnStage+ project is characterized by 3 levels of intervention:
TEACHER TRAINING
A training program aimed at teachers in lower and upper secondary schools and education professionals, designed to acquire classroom intervention tools for promoting inclusion and countering gender discrimination
THEATRICAL PERFORMANCE
An interactive performance, OnStage+, aimed at an audience of students or teachers, which raises awareness and informs by actively engaging the spectators
INTERACTIVE BOARD GAME
An interactive game in a board game version, developed from the contents of the interactive performance. It is designed to actively involve participants and to be used in the classroom, in informal education settings, or at home to address the theme with a playful and light approach among peers and/or accompanied by an adult.
The game has also been developed in a digital version—you can play on the online platform at this link!
And if you want to play offline, you can download the printable PDF version in our download section.
THE HANDBOOK FOR TEACHERS AND EDUCATORS
The project produced a theoretical and methodological handbook to support teacher training: MANUALE IL TEATRO SOCIALE A SCUOLA PER L’INCLUSIONE E IL CONTRASTO ALLE DISCRIMINAZIONI. Elementi teorici, pratica didattica, casi di studio. The volume delves into the methodology of Social Community Theatre and its use in schools, presenting examples and useful references for addressing themes of well-being and inclusion, and analyzes the actions of the OnStage+ project—the performance, training, and game—highlighting their transformative value and educational potential. The handbook also includes a contribution dedicated to models of masculinity and gender representations, elaborated by researcher Matteo Botto.
This is a tool aimed at teachers to understand the application of Social Theatre and to guide activities and reflections in their daily teaching practices.
Project in partnership with Fondazione per la Scuola – Instrumental Body of Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo.
